Classics and Personal Essays
Duration:
15 three-hour classes taught on a bi-weekly basis (year-long)
Goal:
Each student produces work that is included in a professionally desktop published class anthology.
In this workshop for ages 14-16, students work with a mentor to read and examine classical and modern works of literature, concentrating on developing and improving their analytical and essay-writing skills. Each week students produce personal essays or short stories that are corrected and edited by the mentor. It is generally recommended that students complete a Dream Workshop program before joining the Classics and Personal Essays class. Students read 12-15 books comprised of classical works of literature, critical essays, and modern literature that provide inside into past works of literature, as selected by the mentor.
