15 three-hour classes taught on a weekly basis (delivered in Fall term)
Goal:
Each student produces articles, short stories and editorials which are professionally desktop published in a magazine-style class anthology.
In this workshop for ages 13-16, students work with a mentor to learn the skills required to research and write non-fiction articles and editorials in a variety of formats. Students learn how to craft an article for newspapers, magazines and online sites. Students also learn how to create blogs, podcasts and videos on current news topics and areas of interest in politics, current affairs, the arts and the sciences, which improves their writing, debate and presentation skills.
Students read a variety of advanced newspaper and magazine articles and watch/listen to news and reports online which are then critically analyzed and discussed in class.
