Novel Approaches ~ Senior Duration: Goal: In this workshop for ages 12-15, students work with a mentor to continue the process of improving their creative writing and understanding the process of self-editing. Each week students produce chapters of their novels that are corrected and edited by their peers and the mentor. Students are also expected to enter professional writing contests and to submit their work to publishing organizations and to report on these activities. It is generally recommended that students participate in a Dream Workshop class before joining this intermediate class. In addition, students entering an intermediate program should demonstrate exceptional commitment to creative writing. Students read 12-15 advanced books that focus on social issues and promote critical thinking and discussion. Students can, and often do, repeat this workshop more than once with a different mentor.
